Could You Be a Future Associations North Leader?

Posted By: Maria Huntley Leadership + Talent,

You don’t have to be a current leader to be a future leader at Associations North. You also don’t need to wait for someone else to decide that you are “ready.”

Board leadership begins with curiosity, connection and a willingness to contribute.

Each year, our Board Development Committee considers what the board needs next. That includes the skills and expertise needed to advance our strategy, but it also means asking whose voices and perspectives are missing. We want a board that reflects different roles, sectors, locations, experiences and ways of thinking, not one that simply recreates itself.

The process is intentional. Interested members apply, participate in a conversation and are considered in relation to the board’s current needs. Just as importantly, board development happens all year. We are continually looking for members who care about this community and want to help shape its future.

If that might be you, there are many ways to begin:

    •    Attend programs and join conversations.
    •    Volunteer for a committee, task force or short-term opportunity.
    •    Share an idea or area of expertise on the Associations North Blog or our Spark Community.
    •    Tell us you are interested in learning more about board service or meet a current board member for coffee.

You do not need to check every box, hold a particular title or already think of yourself as a board leader. Sometimes the most important first step is simply saying, “I’d like to get more involved.”

We want members to see a place for themselves in the future of Associations North. The different experiences you bring are not something to overcome. They may be exactly what makes your leadership valuable.
