Is Your Membership Model Still Working?
A Practical Litmus Test for 2027 | Just-In-Time Learning Webinar
For years, many associations have operated with essentially the same membership structure: define the categories, set the dues, bundle the benefits, and renew annually.
But member expectations, buying behavior, organizational economics, and competition for attention have changed significantly.
The question is no longer simply whether members are renewing.
It is whether the membership model itself is still doing the job the organization needs it to do.
In this highly practical session, participants will put their current membership model through a simple “litmus test” designed to surface strengths, warning signs, and opportunities for change.
Rather than starting with the assumption that every association needs a new model, we’ll examine the questions leaders should be asking to determine whether the current one is still aligned with their mission, economics, members, and future direction.
Participants will leave with a clearer answer to a critical question: Do we have the right membership model for the organization we are becoming?
From there, we’ll explore what to strengthen if the model is working…and where to begin if it isn’t.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Assess their current membership model using a practical set of indicators tied to member value, organizational purpose, and financial sustainability.
- Identify warning signs that suggest the structure, value proposition, or economics of their membership model may need to evolve.
- Determine appropriate next steps for strengthening, adapting, or rethinking their membership model based on what the assessment reveals.
