Coronavirus (COVID-19) Resources
Last updated 5.14.20

Associations North is here for you and committed to providing resources to help you stay informed and protected during the Coronavirus pandemic. Our greatest resource is YOU, our community. TOGETHER we can learn, share, and come out of this situation stronger and more prepared.

We are proactively monitoring COVID-19 and guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organization, and the Minnesota Department of Health. We will continue to monitor the situation and update this page. Please check the calendar of events for education and event details. We will continue to monitor conditions and make updates as necessary.

To Our Allied Members + Hospitality Community

We are here for you. We are all in this together and you are definitely in our hearts. We are working to bring additional resources as part of your Associations North membership.

Additionally, Associations North staff will be working remotely with full capacity to serve members.

Here are some of Associations North priorities for the near future:

Bringing Connection + Community to Members - One of the benefits of in-person meetings is sharing with peers. Since face-to-face interactions are not possible for the short-term, we are creating opportunities for you to take advantage of your Associations North membership remotely. This includes webinars, live chats and Zoom meetings for our members and volunteers. Check the calendar for upcoming virtual opportunities and below (under Web Chats + Virtual Conversations) for recorded programs.

2020 Education and Events - All education and events this year will be held virtually. While we work to redesign what this will look like, please know that we are working hard to provide the most value for members during this challenging time and some of our programs will look differently this year. For example, the Meeting Planners Symposium (typically held in November) will be June 16 and 18 virtually. We will continue to share details as they develop.

Funding + Financial Relief

Small Business Administrations Paycheck Protection Program

Nonprofits with less than 500 employees qualify for this new SBA program and we encourage you to apply if this would be helpful for your organization. The Paycheck Protection Program provides potentially forgivable loans for nonprofits at 2.5 times your average monthly payroll for up to $10 million. Nonprofits apply through their bank. This program is designed to be streamlined with the goal of helping nonprofits retain their employees; there’s no penalty for a “good enough” application.  If you’re interested, reach out to your nonprofit’s bank asap and check in with your board; it’s in your interest to apply quickly. Coronavirus Aid, Relief + Economic Security (CARES) Act

In March, Congress passed the CARES Act, a $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief package to provide Americans emergency aid and help combat the pandemic. Two provisions in the CARES Act apply to 501(c)(6) associations: an employee retention payroll tax credit and emergency Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) grants that can be used for payroll costs, rent or mortgage payments, or repaying obligations that cannot be met because of revenue losses. However, associations were not included in the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), which received an additional infusion of funds in a $484 billion interim package of new COVID-19 relief passed by Congress on April 23. That bill also included additional funding for the EIDL program. (Source: ASAE)

Tax extension. The IRS announced April 9 that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, tax returns and payments for tax-exempt organizations and fiscal-year businesses due between April and June are now delayed until July 15, 2020.

COVID-19 + Unemployment

Hospitality + Tourism

The CARES Act, the largest economic relief package in our nation’s history, was signed into law on March 27 and includes major provisions U.S. Travel fought for to deliver economic support to travel businesses, travel workers and their families.

Advocacy Updates + Call to Action

Associations North is in regular communication with ASAE in regard to advocacy efforts that have great impact on the association community. Currently, we must continue to educate Congress about the financial stress the COVID-19 pandemic has created for associations at the same time many of our organizations are trying to assist our own members to obtain emergency aid. Here's what you can do to help:
