We want you to better understand the nominating process and role of an Associations North board member. Here are some frequently asked questions:

How many board positions are available this year?

For 2017-2018, Associations North is seeking association professionals to fill three board seats. Applications are due by March 1, 2017.

What is the time commitment to serve on the Board of Directors?

Board members serve a three-year term (max two terms) and meet 4-6 times annually. Board members are required to review documents in advance of meetings and come prepared for thoughtful, high-level conversation. It is expected that all board members attend Associations North Annual Meeting & Expo, Golf Classic, Leadership Conference and Holiday Celebration and Silent Auction. Regular attendance at networking groups, committees, symposiums and other events put on by Associations North are highly recommended.  Associations North Board Members serve as ambassadors of Associations North and are encouraged to promote membership when talking to prospective members. Associations North is looking those ready to be visible leaders for our organization.

What is the criteria to serve on Associations North board? What is the nominating committee seeking?

To serve on Associations North Board of Directors you must be a current Associations North member. After meeting the membership requirement, the nominating committee will evaluate your Board of Directors Application. based on:

  • Involvement, participation and activities previously involved with at Associations North
  • How long you have been an Associations North member
  • Commitment to association leadership and why you want to serve
  • Experience, background and leadership history

What is the board application and nominating process?

Associations North is accepting applications through March 1, 2017. Once all applications are received, the nominating committee will meet to review applications and schedule a brief conversation with each applicant. By March 31, 2017 applicants will be notified by Associations North. Board election is at Associations North Annual Meeting & Expo and new board members will start their term on July 1.

What if I am not selected for Associations North board?

Associations North is fortunate to have so many great members and volunteers that sometimes there are not enough seats for everyone who applies. It's always a tough decision for the selection committee. If you are not selected this year, we encourage you to submit your application again next year.  In addition, Associations North encourages you to volunteer, participate at Networking Group meetings and regularly attend events. If you have any questions or want to discuss your application further, you may connect with the nominating committee chair.
